While our CEO and Founder Ramya Chunduri was at Harvard Medical School, Saurya Media was born through her capstone.

Initially, through needs assessments in her cultural community, Ramya noticed an absence of innovation or lasting resonance in both training practices, and in ways of healing/treatments. While working as a psychotherapist, she had many conversations with elders, and other community members that sparked questions about traditional healing practices, and offered insight about the arts that evoke feelings of peace, and contentment and a way to explore negative emotions.

While being a hospital social worker, Ramya saw the positive impacts of takeaways from inter professional collaboration — what music, dance, and art therapists gained about a patient’s story filled in many gaps that other providers often had after more interactions with the same patients.

Keeping in mind all of those independent experiences, while at the Harvard Innovation Labs, her purpose became clear: health education, healing, and innovation. Her program and mentors inspired her to think outside of the box to create an answer to a question most people weren’t asking, leading to relying on various art mediums that aren’t traditionally merged to facilitate expression, understanding, and empathy.

Successfully accomplishing this through her animated dance short film, she began creating more. She was invited back as a Guest Lecturer at Harvard Medical School to teach students about her novel approach, and then, she never looked back.

Saurya Media is now a health media start-up that continues impacting the world through dance animation, while also having in the works a podcast, research division, workshops, dance tour, and anthology series.
